Nashville Civil Rights Landmark Woolworth on 5th now OPEN
Woolworth on 5th, Nashville native Tom Morales' newest and most historically significant restaurant, is now open. The restaurant interior features elements of Art Deco design as well as details from the 1960's, when Woolworth's was at the height of its popularity and cultural significance. The menu aims to explore the roots of Southern cuisine, and honor the history of the Woolworth story. The main level includes large dining booths along one wall with a full length bar on the opposite side inspired by the original Woolworth lunch counter, a prominent piece of Nashville Civil Rights history. Above, the mezzanine level features additional seating along with a small lounge and separate bar.
Opening to the public on March 1st, the New Era Ballroom, located on the basement level, will begin featuring a variety of live music and mixed art performances with genres including soul, swing, jazz, and rock and roll. Much like the cuisine, the live entertainment aims to honor the diverse history of Woolworth and Nashville as a whole, while being open and inclusive to everyone.
