Columbia State 'tops out' technology center building

At the end of June 2025, the final beam was placed, marking a huge milestone for the $50,000,000 building housing The Southern Regional Technology Center.

The 100,000 SF building is the first building constructed on Columbia States campus since the Waymon L. Hickman Building, which was built in 2001. The building will be a central hub for workforce development, where tradespeople and workers can be trained with cutting edge technology to be prepared for the industry, healthcare, and the trades.

Shanese Brown, one of the Anecdote architects who designed the SRTC with colleagues Chuck Miller and Victor Lecoffre, listed the departments the building will hold. The west wing will serve as an administrative suite, while the east wing will hold health-science areas like veterinary labs, radiology labs and medical-technology facilities. The south side of the building will host the “tech bar,” where Columbia State classes and professors will collaborate with the nearby Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology (in Hohenwald and Pulaski) on vocational programs and labs. Other programs in the building will include respiratory care, engineering technology, automotive tech, HVAC and welding.
